Before reading I would like to say that everything you buy counts! The public is offered the power of purchasing what they desire...with this power change can arise.
So, what is genetically modified food (GMO)?
The Non-GMO Project states, " they are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered w/ DNA from bacteria, viruses or other plants & animals. These experimental combinations of genes from different species cannot occur in nature or in traditional crossbreeding."
What is wrong w/ GMO?
The pesticides: a direct result of super weeds becoming resistant to Monsanto’s Round-up pesticide in their GMO crops. The amount of allowable glyphosate (ROUNDUP) in oilseed crops such as flax, soybeans & canola will be increased from 20 parts per million (ppm) to 40 ppm, which GM Watch acknowledged is over 100,000 times the amount needed to induce breast cancer cells. .
The herbicides linked to our groundwater:
This groundwater contamination study from March, 2011, published in the journal Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, where researchers found the chemical in 60-100% of all air & rain samples tested, indicating that glyphosate pollution and exposure is now omnipresent in the US.
*Keep in mind that glyphosate is considered by the EPA as a Class III toxic substance, fatal to an adult at 30 grams, &has been linked to over 20 adverse health effects in the peer-reviewed, biomedical literature.
What to do?
Look for packages w/ the non-gmo project label on it, buy organic & do your research on all products, NOT JUST FOOD. GMO is in products such as:

This post caught my attention. To be honest I never knew that GMO is in products of that picture (gasoline, cotton, soy ink, hand sanitizer, and beauty products). Thanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteYes, we are exposed to GMO's more than we think. One of the best ways to stop GMO's in what we eat/use is to buy anything that says non-gmo or buy local, homemade produce. :) Thanks for the appreciation.
DeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteThis is SO interesting! I alwasy here about GMO's but never really knew about it! I didnt realize it was in many products used on a daily basis. Thanks for the eye opener!
ReplyDeleteSuper interesting!!! I am trying to watch out for GMO's. You definitely have to do research to know how to avoid it! Great Post.
